Recently there has been a trend in the Baby clothing market to purchase organic clothing. As usual with trends some of them are made because of supply side pressure i.e. advertising and branding. Others are due to an increase in demand because there is a legitimate need for the product.
There have been numerous articles informing parents of the dangers to their children and the environment caused by the current clothing industry. The question arises “Why now, what’s changed?”. Well, the manufacturing process of clothes is now different from how they were made before. Also recently organic clothing has become price accessible to more people.
The surge in consumer demand for ready made clothing has put a strain on the industry. This has turned some companies into mass producing clothing for as cheap as possible. This means your average cotton t-shirt will now be made with pesticides, ammonia, softeners, artificial dyes and fire retardants. Many more parents are becoming informed of these harmful products and are looking for alternatives.
Baby’s have very sensitive skin. Meaning it is extremely important to make sure that the materials the clothing is made from. Do not incite any negative effects on the baby like rashes. This is where natural organic clothing has found a market.
Organic clothing has no synthetic fabrics. There is no contact with artificial agents. The clothing can be made from organic cotton, bamboo, wool and hemp. The organic materials used to make the cloth are produced without toxins and chemicals right from the start. The process for making wool starts much earlier with the sheep only served organic food. No artificial hormones are used to increase yield.
Organic clothing comes in all different colours. Each type of organic material has a different texture to it meaning that there is plenty to choose from. Designers are also adopting organic baby clothing. So you can rest assured that you won’t have to compromise on style to get what’s best for your baby.
Organic clothing for adults in general is nice to have if you can afford it. For babies it’s important to keep these toxins as far away from them as possible. Choosing organic over the chemically dependant mass produced clothing will also be helping the environment. Together we can make a difference.
