Some parents might find it hard to get clothes for their children, others will have hand me downs from family and gifts from friends so they end up
with quite a lot of clothes. Most likely not all of these clothes will be the same size and used in the same weather condition. So you will have to find a way to organize the clothes. Every person can organize the clothes differently so there’s no hard and fast rule here. Your friends and family will hopefully be around to help you out, so now you have many more people going around your baby’s clothing and that many more places where they may put the clothes.
You can put a certain item of clothing somewhere and after the wash your husband/mother/friend will put it somewhere else, so right when the baby needs that baby grow you can’t find it.
The first thing you will need to do as it will make life much easier for everyone is to organize your baby’s clothes by size. If you have clothing that no longer fits then you can read what to do here. I usually keep clothing that is my child’s size and also one size up in the cupboard or easy to access areas. The rest of the clothes can be put away, put them in plastic containers labelled by size, make sure to place a lid on them and keep them out of direct sunlight.
Every time your baby moves up a size take the old clothes away and remove the new set that you have already prepared in the boxes. Whenever you get new clothes file them away in the right box so it’s ready for later. You should be left with all the clothes that your baby can wear now and those that will fit in a few months’ time. With these clothes that are left I tend to organize them into items which I have many of the same type and style i.e. baby grows, bibs, socks and vests. These items go in separate drawers (like a side table); since they are all similar you can just put your hand in and take one without looking.
Outfits, towels, jumpers and other similar items that either takes up a lot of space because their thick or you need to see all of them properly to make a decision should go in the cupboard. Label the drawers and stick hanging dividers between different types of clothes so that if friends and family come and help out they will know and be able to organize everything themselves.
When your child gets older and you stop having to change clothes sizes so often then you could organize the clothes based on summer and winter styles( you can also reuse summer clothes for winter), depending what season it is those are the clothes that should be nearer to the front and more accessible.
As the saying goes “A tidy house is a tidy mind” Wishing you all a tidy house and a Happy New Year
