Just as important as knowing what to buy, is knowing what not to buy. With the endless amount of items you can buy in shops and even more so online it is becoming much easier to buy the right baby product for you as there is so much choice. This comes with a very obvious downside in that there are even more products that won’t be suited to your baby that you should avoid.
When shopping it is very easy to become distracted by all the advertising and branding that you may buy things that you should have avoided. When shopping I generally try and take the points below into consideration and will most likely avoid these types of clothes.
When buying clothes for infants, I try to get clothes that have the poppers in the front as opposed to the back. This is because newborn babies have trouble supporting their necks and it’s not convenient or practical to turn them over to do those poppers up.
Also stay away from baby mittens that are used to stop the baby scratching themselves. Those mittens are easy to misplace. Mittens are usually too loose on the hands so fall off easily, or the elastic is too tight restricting blood flow. Another reason to stay away from baby mittens is that they get in the way of the baby exploring their sense of touch, there’s a reason they grab everything and putting mittens on can prevent them doing that properly.
If you are having trouble with the baby scratching themselves then the simplest solution would be to cut those nails, you can use special baby scissors or a nail file. These methods have always worked for me and are invaluable in keeping your little ones face scratch free.
Baby zippers can be dangerous because you could inadvertently use the zipper on part of the baby’s skin. The zipper can also be uncomfortable if it hasn’t got cloth behind it to stop the metal scratching the baby’s skin.
Never go for buttons on babies clothes, with your baby pulling and clawing at everything in proximity theirs a good chance those buttons will take the brunt of it. Buttons can become worn and fall of and that’s one thing you don’t want your baby to put in their mouth.
It goes without saying to avoid clothes that are too small for your baby and when choosing what to buy always consider the material and how that will affect the comfort of your baby. If you have any handy tips of your own, with baby clothes you avoid please feel free to post bellow.
